Early loan repayment

See how much you save by paying early

Enter your balance, interest rate and remaining installments. We compute the new amortization schedule, how many months you cut, and how much interest you save. PDF report included.

Example

A worked example

A loan with a balance of RON 180,000.00, a rate of 7.5% a year and 240 installments left, of which you prepay RON 20,000.00 now. The figures come from the same calculator you can use with your own data; it is an example, not an offer.

The same sum, two ways to use it

Reduce the term

52 months

The installment stays RON 1,450.07, the loan ends 52 months sooner and you save RON 55,722.97 in interest.

Reduce the installment

RON 1,288.95

The term stays the same, the installment falls to RON 1,288.95 (RON 161.12 less per month) and you save RON 18,668.47 in interest.

How it works

  1. Enter your loan's figures

The remaining balance, the nominal annual rate and the number of installments left; you will find them in your contract or your bank's app.

  2. Choose what you do

A sum now, an extra amount every month, a plan with several payments or closing the loan.

  3. See and keep the result

A before-and-after comparison, charts, the repayment table, a PDF report, a CSV export and a link with your figures.

Shorter term or lower installment?

If you want to pay as little interest as possible, shorten the term: the installment stays the same but the loan ends sooner, and total interest falls the most.

If you need room in your budget, lower the installment: you pay for the same number of months but less each month. You save interest this way too, but less. The calculator puts the two options side by side.

Frequently asked questions

What does prepaying a loan mean?

It means paying part of the debt, or all of it, before it is due. The sum comes off the balance, so the interest from then on is calculated on a smaller balance.

Can the bank charge me a commission?

It can, within the limits of the law. On fixed-rate consumer loans the commission is capped at 1% of the amount repaid early (more than 12 months remaining) or 0.5% (12 months or less); on a variable rate, as a rule none is charged. Mortgages and special cases may have other rules: your contract has the last word.

What figures do I need?

The remaining balance, the nominal annual rate and the number of installments left, from your contract or repayment schedule. If you have an early-repayment commission, enter it too, to see the real saving.

How exact are the figures?

They are indicative: the calculation assumes equal installments and a constant rate. The bank may count days exactly and may have costs in the installment. Final values are confirmed with the bank.

Is my data kept?

No. The calculation runs in your browser; the figures reach the server only when you ask for the PDF, and they are not kept.

Indicative calculation. Final figures are confirmed with your bank/lender (RO law OUG 50/2010: you have the right to early repayment).
